Prelude

[20:31] < eldersphinx> It's early morning, about a week or so after each of you passed your acceptance trial and were formally inducted into the Adventurer's Guild, when you receive a request to report to the Administrator's office. This small room is well-known to all guildmembers, even relative newcomers like yourself, for it's here that all Guild missions are approved and assigned to adventurers.
[20:31] < eldersphinx> Each of you slept poorly the night before, kept awake for hours by an unseasonably fierce storm from the north that shed thunder and hail across the entire city of Halmaron last night. Nevertheless, you shake off your weariness and report to the Administrator's office.
[20:32] < eldersphinx> A small, weaselly man greets you when you arrive, sniffing fussily and waving you to pull up seats. "Good morning," he says, in a flat voice barely louder than a whisper. "I hope you slept well?"
[20:32] < Akihito> "Aye, sir..."
[20:32] < PTHyperion> Nah, but I never sleep well
[20:32] < eldersphinx> Without waiting for an answer, the clerk pulls out a small sheaf of papers and starts thumbing through them. "Ha-hmm, your mission involves a trading caravan that recently left the kingdom of Prieve, to the north. An unusually violent storm scattered its wagons while on the trail three days ago; we have been contracted to locate and retrieve as many wagons as possible. Your group will participate in this effort."
[20:32] * Xyzo yawns. Loudly.
[20:33] * Kyann cocks an eyebrow. "Caravans. Right. Milk run."
[20:33] * PTHyperion twitches
[20:33] * Shirinji leans quietly on the wall, listening intently.
[20:34] * Leon_Sernia just stands and looks at everyone else.
[20:35] < PTHyperion> Can we go now?
[20:35] < Akihito> "Patience."
[20:36] < eldersphinx> The man falls silent, pulls out another set of reports from a drawer and starts flipping through them, then looks up after a few moments. "Ah-hmm, are you still here?"
[20:36] < Kyann> "So, how big an area do you figure these wagons are spread over?"
[20:36] < PTHyperion> "Yes."
[20:37] < eldersphinx> The clerk looks at Kyann, somewhat bewildered. "The, hmm, wagons are believed to have made it into Halmaron before the storm hit. They should be holed up in whatever locations they could find along our northern hills."
[20:37] < Leon_Sernia> "Do these wagons have any special identifying marks?"
[20:38] < Kyann> "How many are there?"
[20:38] < eldersphinx> "At least a dozen, though we do not how many survived the storm intact. Your group is of course not expected to retrieve and guard every wagon - we are sending out several groups in this effort. If you can locate a single intact wagon and escort it back to Halmaron, our client will be satisfied."
[20:38] * Kyann smirks. "We'll do better than that."
[20:39] < PTHyperion> "Okay, let's get going then."
[20:39] < eldersphinx> The clerk looks over at Leon, apparently somewhat relieved to be talking to another human. "All cargo in this caravan is sealed in containers marked with the device of a Winged Sword. The client requests that any cargo found be returned still sealed; your reward will be dependent on this occurring."
[20:39] < Kyann> "Speaking of reward... how much is it?"
[20:39] < Akihito> "It likely depends on how much of the cargo we recover intact..."
[20:39] * PTHyperion is getting impatient
[20:40] < Akihito> His family was counting on the money for livestock and crops for the next season... He would do his best...
[20:40] < eldersphinx> "The client has posted a bounty of 150 gil for each wagon returned to Halmaron with its cargo. An additional reward may be provided to you by the surviving caravan staff, depending on your actions of course."
[20:40] * Kyann glares at Akihito. Kid didn't know how to be prefessional. Of course, probably neither does Kyann.
[20:41] < Kyann> "Only 150? Why do we get all the cheap employers..."
[20:41] * Akihito was just a farmboy... While polite, he was completely innocent with regards to being professional
[20:42] < PTHyperion> "Is there anything else we need to know?"
[20:42] < eldersphinx> The clerk looks at Hyperion, slowly opens his mouth, and then closes it again wordlessly.
[20:43] < Kyann> "I don't expect that there is. Let's get the hell out of here."
[20:43] * Kyann exits without any more discussion.
[20:43] < PTHyperion> "Finally, somebody speaking my language: action"
[20:43] * Shirinji nods at the clerk, and follows closely after Kyann.
[20:43] * Leon_Sernia shrugs and follows Kyann.
[20:43] < Akihito> "Shouldn't we wait until we're dismissed? H..Hey! Wait up!"
[20:44] * PTHyperion exits as expeditiously as possible
[20:44] < Kyann> "Before we get a move on, I'd like to pick up a couple of things I've had my eye on in the shop." Kyann says to no one in particlar as he walks.
[20:45] < eldersphinx> You quickly leave the Adventurer's Guild, and proceed towards the North Gate of Halmaron. Your path takes you through one of the city's busier market districts, and for a moment your progress is slowed considerably by shouts to 'buy this cloak, sir', or 'take a long look at our fine assortment of pastries'.
[20:45] * Xyzo knows the ropes. He follows Kyann. At the very least, it'll be interesting.
[20:45] < Leon_Sernia> "Good plan. You know, I don't believe I caught your name..."
[20:45] < Xyzo> "Oooh, pastry! ...No, wait. Young, sexy Elvish, not..."
[20:45] < eldersphinx> ((Kyann: Go for it. Minimal RP for anything in the CR.))
[20:46] < Kyann> ((OK, basically I'm going to sell off the Fire Armor I got last session and my Hand axe, leaving me with 1530 Gil. Then purchase a Silver Axe and Bronze Helmet, leaving me with 140. How's that for minimal? :P))
[20:46] * Shirinji points north unceremoniously, inquiring as to whether or not he should go and wait at the Gate.
[20:47] * Kyann makes a few purchases and sells a few pieces of old gear.
[20:47] * Leon_Sernia takes a look around for a few things he's been meaning to get.
[20:47] < Leon_Sernia> ((I'll get a cap and two tonics, putting me down to 160 Gil.))
[20:47] * PTHyperion replies, "Why not? Let's go". and heads off to the gate.

[20:52] < eldersphinx> You leave the city of Halmaron without incident and move northwards, making good time along the Royal Highway. The first few miles are open and peaceful, with small villages and well-kept fields on either side. As you press onwards, though, the settled lands give way to light forest that seems somewhat more threatening, for no reason you can clearly say.
[20:52] < eldersphinx> As you round a bend in the trail, you spot something odd ahead of you. Several men, dressed in somewhat dirty leathers, are gathered around the far edge of a wide spot in the trail, apparently digging at the ground with shovels. As you approach them, the nearest man spins around, surprised at your arrival.

[20:53] * Kyann smiles. "Good day, sir."
[20:53] < PTHyperion> "Oh, sorry to startle you, what are you up to here?"

[20:55] < Kyann> "I'm sure. You seem to be working on something, though, and we have several able-bodied fellows here. Anything we can lend a hand with?"

[20:56] * PTHyperion is getting suspicious
[20:56] < Kyann> "How so?"
[20:56] * Shirinji coughs quietly and discreetly tries to peer past the men at what they're digging.
[20:56] < Xyzo> "Let's not pressure them. They're obviously hard at work with something important. We don't need to mess around with... what is it you said you were doing?"
[20:56] * Akihito approached the front... Small and completely unintimidating...
[20:56] < Akihito> "I do not like this, sir.." He said quiety
[20:57] < eldersphinx> "Jes... burying a friend, lord! Our poor neighbor Shen, passed away in his sleep las' night!"
[20:57] < PTHyperion> "Ah! Sorry to bother you then. And my deepest sympathies."
[20:57] < Leon_Sernia> "Oh. I'm sorry to hear that."
[20:57] < Kyann> "Oh, I'm sorry to hear that."

[20:58] * Kyann nods. "I'm sure Shen is glad to have had friends like yourself. Well, let's get a move on, shall we?"
[20:59] < PTHyperion> "He's wondering if you know what killed him."

[20:59] * Shirinji points upward toward the sky and then toward the area where the men are digging, inquiring as to whether they've held a proper service for the deceased.
[20:59] < Xyzo> "You know. Are you going to end up catching the plague from burying him?"
[20:59] < Kyann> ((Kyann flicks the little Stabitha devil off his shoulder.))
[20:59] * Akihito tried to look around the men, trying to get a view of the corpse or grave...
[21:00] * Kyann lights a cigarette and steps away. SOme people could be *so* insensitive.

[21:01] < eldersphinx> Akihito tries to get a closer look at the grave, but the clustering of bodies around it makes it impossible for him to get any details.
[21:02] * PTHyperion tips his cap and says "I guess we'll just be on our way then.".
[21:02] * Kyann blows a smoke ring.
[21:02] < Akihito> "Grrrr..." Too short!
[21:02] < eldersphinx> "He... um... died of old age, yes. Terribly sorry to bother you like this, lords. Terribly sorry." Behind the speaker, the other men have finished spading dirt into the grave and are kicking a few more bits of stone and moss over the top.
[21:03] < Shirinji> ((Heh, think we could wait for the men to leave and then check the grave once they're gone?))
[21:03] < Kyann> ((Did you bring a shovel?))
[21:03] < Shirinji> ((As a matter of fact, smart ass...))
[21:03] * Xyzo mmhmms. "Well, that's really too bad. Out of curiosity, how old was he? I'm a musician, you see - I might want to work this into a tune. Gotta have the details right."

[21:04] < eldersphinx> One of the other men pipes up behind the first speaker. "About fifty, like."
[21:04] < PTHyperion> ((Sure, let's all go grave robbing. We don't even have to find a buried king, we'll rob a poor man's grave))
[21:05] < Shirinji> ((I get this feeling that they're not burying a man.))
[21:05] * Kyann pokes Xyzo. "Let's sing a song to send his spirit into the next world, shall we?"
[21:05] < Kyann> ((Our music will make them run away,))
[21:05] * Xyzo looks at Kyann. "Well.... you think it would help?"
[21:05] < Shirinji> ((Do 'Free Bird'!))
[21:05] < Kyann> "Couldn't hurt."
[21:05] < Captain_Vittles> ((Dust in the Wind!))
[21:05] < Xyzo> "I mean, we *are* in a little bit of a hurry... though I suppose it would only take a minute or two."
[21:06] < eldersphinx> The speaker darts a look at the other man, and then waves at his companions. "That's done with, time to be back to the village. Come on, lads."

[21:06] * Shirinji nods at the man, leaning quietly on his rifle.
[21:06] < Kyann> "Oh, I guess they didn't want to hear a song."
[21:06] < eldersphinx> Without another word, the diggers step away from the grave and file into a line. They don't take the trail in either direction, instead crashing off directly into the underbrush.

[21:07] < Akihito> I want a closer look at that grave."
[21:07] < Kyann> "It's a grave. What do you expect to find exactly? We do have a mission after all."
[21:07] < Akihito> "I'm telling you something is not right here..."
[21:07] < Xyzo> "Odd they went off that way, though."
[21:08] * Shirinji coughs quietly, and jerks his head toward where the diggers left. The whole encounter was definitely... off.
[21:08] < eldersphinx> Akihito crosses to the grave site and looks at it closely. The soil's been packed down fairly good, but he immediately notices a few things. First, there's no marker, of any kind. Second, the hole's oddly small - maybe a foot or so around in all directions.
[21:08] < Kyann> "Yeah. Probably brigands burying a body. What do you expect?"
[21:08] < Leon_Sernia> "We can always check this area out later, if need be."
[21:08] < Akihito> "This hole is far too small for any body... Except an infant, perhaps..."
[21:08] < PTHyperion> "This better not be a body. I don't want to have graverobbing on my conscience."
[21:09] < PTHyperion> "It's not an infant, that's for sure."
[21:09] * Shirinji moves toward Akihito and the grave.
[21:09] * Leon_Sernia looks around to see if there is anyone else around.
[21:09] * Kyann walsk over and takes a look. "Huh. Anyone bring a shovel?"
[21:09] < Kyann> "I've seen a lot of graves, and this doesn't look like one.
[21:10] < PTHyperion> "We might as well use our hands to dig. Your hands that is. I'm no good for manual labor."
[21:10] < Kyann> "Hey, now. This was as much your idea as mine."
[21:10] * Akihito would get down on his hands and knees and begin to do with small hands
[21:10] < Xyzo> "You guys seriously want to dig up a grave to see what's buried there? Even if the story *is* fishy, and even if this can't really be what they said it was.."

[21:11] < PTHyperion> "Fine! I'm digging!"
[21:11] * PTHyperion starts to clear away dirt with his hands

[21:13] < eldersphinx> Akihito starts going at it with bare hands, but soon decides to start using a discarded rock to tear at the ground. After about fifteen minutes, the excavated hole is about a foot or so deep, and Akihito hits something that... rips.

[21:18] < eldersphinx> The uniform's insignia and polish have not fared well from the burying, but one flash on the shoulder is recognizable. It's the insignia of the Halmaron Royal Guards.
[21:18] < Xyzo> "Alright, it isn't a body. But where the heck did they get *that* from?"
[21:18] * Shirinji nods to himself.
[21:18] < Kyann> "Now that's interesting. It also has nothing to do with us. Let's get out of here."
[21:18] * PTHyperion sighs deeply
[21:18] < Leon_Sernia> "I imagine that one of them used to own it."
[21:18] < PTHyperion> "Yeah, we've got a job to do. Let's worry about this later."
[21:19] < Leon_Sernia> "But you are right. We should go.
[21:19] * Kyann starts dwon the path, letting others follow or not.
[21:19] * Akihito puts the uniform in his pack for later examination
[21:19] * PTHyperion starts off doen the path

[21:19] * Shirinji sniffs, and waits for Akihito before following Kyann.

[21:20] < eldersphinx> You continue down the trail for several more hours, every so often wandering out of the woods and into a settled area, then returning to the forest again. The first day's travel ends with no more concerns, as you make camp near a small stream.

[21:21] < Shirinji> ((Actually, if we hit a lull, I could attempt to repair it.))

[21:21] < Akihito> "Ooo... A stream... I wonder if its not too cold to take a bath..."
[21:22] < Kyann> "Bath? What are you, a woman? Besides, we need that water to drink."
[21:22] < eldersphinx> (Kyann: It's close to two days' travel on foot from Halmaron City to the northern border.)
[21:23] < Kyann> ((Oh. Disregard that bit then. :P))
[21:23] < Xyzo> "Much as I could go for a quick soak, Kyann's right. At the very least, bathe downstream."
[21:24] * Shirinji nods his head toward Kyann in agreement, and to enforce this point, fills his hip flask with water from the stream.
[21:24] * PTHyperion takes a gulp of water from the stream and prepares to settle in for the night
[21:25] * Kyann sings to himself as he fills his canteens. "No woman no cry...."
[21:25] * Akihito rose and wandered off... He would go downstream, but even he was smart enough to remain close to his group...
[21:26] * Shirinji nods his head toward the darkened forest, inquiring as to whether or not they should set a watch.
[21:26] * Leon_Sernia just gets ready to sleep. He needs it, after the storm.
[21:26] < Kyann> "Of course we set a watch."
[21:27] * PTHyperion shrugs.
[21:27] < PTHyperion> "I'll take first watch, I'm not that tired anyway."
[21:28] < Leon_Sernia> "I'll take the last watch. I need some rest."
[21:28] < Kyann> "I'll take middle, so no one else's sleep has to be interrupted."
[21:28] < Xyzo> "And I'll sleep a lot."
[21:28] * Shirinji coughs quietly, and settles down to sleep.

[21:29] * Kyann settles into his bedroll and falls asleep without any hesitation.

[21:39] * Shirinji is already awake, and sitting patiently with his back to a log.
[21:40] * Kyann suddenly sits bolt upright. "SPIDERS! AGH!"
[21:40] * Kyann gets shifty-eyed.
[21:40] * PTHyperion tries to shake Akihito awake.
[21:42] < Akihito> "Ugh... I'm up, I'm up..."
[21:43] < eldersphinx> ((Everyone back?))
[21:43] * Xyzo yawns. "Can we get going yet? Somebody dump some wa.. there he is."
[21:43] < PTHyperion> "Alright, let's go then."
[21:43] * Shirinji stand up and quietly brushes himself off.
[21:43] * PTHyperion starts off to the north
[21:44] * Kyann makes a quick breakfast on the road. "Wish I'd killed that elk that passed by on my watch, it looked like it'd make a good breakfast. Oh well."
[21:45] * PTHyperion stops, noticing no one is following him.
[21:46] * Leon_Sernia realizes people are leaving, and goes to catch up.
[21:46] * Kyann takes point as he is accustomed to.
[21:46] * Shirinji follows closesly after Kyann.
[21:47] * Xyzo just walks, man.
[21:47] * PTHyperion continues walking.
[21:47] < eldersphinx> A few hours pass without incident, and then you round a bend and enter a small clearing. The place was probably a pleasant enough campground, once, but this is no longer the case. The grass and ground cover has been beaten and shredded, both by the movement of many feet and by what looks to be impacting hail; many trees around the edge of the clearing have been shattered by lightning.
[21:48] < Akihito> "Wow..."
[21:48] < Xyzo> "Oh yeah. I don't think this looks quite natural."
[21:48] < PTHyperion> "This must be the site of the storm..."
[21:48] < eldersphinx> The shattered husk of a wagon lies ahead of you to your left, its frame stripped clean of anything valuable, and the battered body of the chocobo that presumably once pulled it lies a ways away. Deep wagon ruts, dug into the dried mud of the clearing, lead off in all directions. Oddly enough, a small pool in the center of the clearing remains remarkably clean and clear, untouched by the devastation all around.
[21:48] * PTHyperion looks into the pool of water
[21:49] * Akihito wanders towards the pool...
[21:49] < Kyann> "Quite the localized weather system."
[21:49] < Xyzo> "This was a pretty focused storm."
[21:49] * Shirinji shoots a sideways glance at Kyann and Xyzo.
[21:49] < Xyzo> "What?"
[21:50] * Xyzo goes to check out these ruts. Obviously the wagon came *in* only once, so something else went out.
[21:50] * Kyann begins inspecting the wagon tracks. "So many to choose from."
[21:50] * Shirinji moves silently toward the burned out wagon.
[21:50] < eldersphinx> Several of the tracks leading out of the clearing have been marked with stakes that have small pieces of paper tied to them. You check them one after another; each is a note from another member of the Adventurer's Guild, telling you that this path has been checked and to take another path. You recognize several of the names: Kitsuko Mitama, Saniel, Floria Margarette.
[21:51] < PTHyperion> "Alright then, let's take another path."
[21:51] < Kyann> "Well, I'll be damned."
[21:51] < Leon_Sernia> ((Which directions haven't been taken?))
[21:51] < Akihito> "Which way?"
[21:51] * Kyann looks for one that hasn't been searched yet.
[21:51] * Akihito pulls out pen and parchment
[21:51] * PTHyperion takes a piece of the cart's frame to use as a stake
[21:52] < PTHyperion> ((How about random direction #1?))
[21:52] < eldersphinx> Kyann: There appear to be four paths that haven't yet been marked. Two going west, one east, and one back to the north.
[21:52] * Shirinji quietly makes his way over to the untouched pool.
[21:52] < Kyann> "Let's take the north path."
[21:52] < Xyzo> "Don't forget, we don't know for sure if any of the other groups have been successful - they might need just as much rescuing as the wagons."
[21:52] * Shirinji dumps out his hip flask and refills it from the pool.
[21:53] < PTHyperion> "North sounds good to me."
[21:53] * Akihito writes his name on the parchment and stakes the path they've chosen
[21:53] < Akihito> "Then let us make haste."
[21:53] < Kyann> "Kitsuko is good. I'm sure she's fine. THe others.... Well, I don't know them."
[21:53] * Xyzo thinks carefully. "I say west. Two tracks go off that way - we might find two wagons."
[21:53] * Kyann gets shifty-eyed and appends his name to the note so people know it's well in hand.
[21:54] * Shirinji gingerly sniffs the water in his flask.
[21:54] * Shirinji looks up from the pond and nods at Xyxo.
[21:54] * Akihito pulls up the stake.. It seems the decision hadn't been made yet...
[21:54] < PTHyperion> "We can't fret over how everyone else is doing. Let's just choose a path and take it."
[21:54] * Kyann looks west.
[21:54] < Leon_Sernia> "True, but will we be able to handle two wagons?"
[21:54] < Leon_Sernia> ((to Xyzo)).
[21:54] < Kyann> "Good thinking. We're overachievers."
[21:55] < Kyann> "We could handle ten."
[21:55] < Xyzo> "If we can't handle the second one - we at least know where it is, so we can come back for it."
[21:55] < PTHyperion> "Fine, let's go west. Anything, as long as we go."
[21:55] * Shirinji bottles his hip flask and attaches it to his belt.
[21:55] < Leon_Sernia> "Alright. West, it is."
[21:55] * Shirinji joins the others, casting a glance back at the deceased chocobo.
[21:56] < Akihito> "Umm... Why did you do that, sir?"
[21:56] < Kyann> "So that anyone who happens by knows we don't need backup."
[21:56] * Kyann grins.
[21:56] < Akihito> "I see..."
[21:57] * PTHyperion rolls his eyes
[21:57] < Kyann> "Not to be arrogant or anything, but I'm the best there is."
[21:57] < Xyzo> "C'mon, let's get going. Drop the stake in and let's hit it. I.. don't quite like hanging around here. This place doesn't seem quite right."
[21:57] < Akihito> "I believe you, sir." Akihito staked the western path
[21:57] * PTHyperion starts off west
[21:58] * Kyann takes point and follows the tracks.
[21:58] * Shirinji follows closely after Kyann.
[21:58] < eldersphinx> The wagon's path leads westwards, winding through the trees and into the foothills that mark Halmaron's northern border. For about half an hour, you follow it back and forth, and are disturbed by nothing more than a few birds or small rodents scurrying across the trail.
[21:58] < eldersphinx> Ahead of you, though, you hear loud sounds - seemingly that of blades hitting wood. The sound reverberates and grows louder as you continue to follow the trail, and ahead of you, the light of a rather large clearing is obvious.
[21:58] < Kyann> "Sounds like they're cutting wood."
[21:59] < Kyann> "Everyone hold tight, I'll scout ahead."
[21:59] * Xyzo thinks. "It's probably just a lumber camp or something."
[21:59] * Shirinji shakes his head and points forward, indicating his intention to follow Kyann.
[21:59] * Kyann nods to Shirinji.
[22:00] < PTHyperion> "I've done enough waiting around, I'm going now."
[22:00] * Kyann tries to stealthily makes his way forwards.
[22:00] < Xyzo> "I played one of those, once. Really rough crowd. Not much in the way of tips, but they at least had good grub."
[22:00] * PTHyperion heads into the clearing
[22:00] * Shirinji quietly follows after Kyann.
[22:00] * Kyann sighs. "Spare me from amateurs..." he says quietly.
[22:01] * J`Rai has joined #Generica
[22:02] * Shirinji raises an eyebrow, but, of course, says nothing.
[22:02] * Xyzo does the smart thing. He watches Hyperion's back - nobody takes him seriously, anyhow, so he won't cause much in the way of problems. Besides, letting teammates die gives you a bad rep.

[22:03] * Xyzo turns around and shrugs at everybody else.
[22:03] < eldersphinx> Kyann and Shirinji move forward and look out over the clearing. The figures there are indeed cutting wood, but they're far too short, squat, and ugly to be human.

[22:04] < Xyzo> (Goblins? At least, compared to the ones I'd seen before?)
[22:04] < Kyann> (AAARRRRRRRRGGGHHHHHH!!!!!! My roommates are invading my provacy and demanding I do shit.))

[22:05] < eldersphinx> Shirinji does notice that these creatures are very similar to the rock goblins he's encountered earlier, though somewhat larger and darker-skinned.

[22:14] < eldersphinx> There are about half a dozen of the goblins. They might be laborers, might be warriors - the axes they're using for tree-chopping could be large enough for either. As Hyperion enters the clearing, their work slowly tapers off and they close ranks.

[22:15] < Kyann> "Well, now we just have to see how it plays out. If they attack, we sweep around and flank them."
[22:15] < PTHyperion> "I was searching for wagons, seen any lately?"
[22:16] * Xyzo steps up behind Hyperion, towering over him. Sadly. And looking about as serious and normal as the Easter Bunny after a rave.
[22:16] < eldersphinx> "Hoi, wagons? We don't need those, we be LUMBERJACKS!"
[22:16] * Leon_Sernia starts to head up when he hears the goblin speak.
[22:16] < PTHyperion> "Well, I'm on a mission to find some wagons, so if you don't have any, I'll just be on my way."

[22:17] * Shirinji gestures around the clearing at the various stumps and trees, inquiring as to what they need all the wood for.

[22:20] * Shirinji nudges Kyann softly with his rifle, and then raps himself several times with a closed fist, indicating that if these Goblins are anything like the last ones he met, they'll absolutely despise him.

[22:20] < PTHyperion> "The ones that have been leading up to this clearing."
[22:21] < PTHyperion> "And the ones that someone has gone to great pains to hide here."

[22:22] < eldersphinx> "Gya-ha! Hide, us? We're doing the Great King's work here, we have no time to hide tracks!"

[22:25] * Xyzo taps Hyperion on the shoulder. "Let me try." He turns to the goblins. "Have you seen anybody else come through here recently? There might be something in it for you.."
[22:26] * Kyann studies the clearing carefully. ((And then asks again about how big aropund the clearing is.))
[22:26] < eldersphinx> ((Clearing's somewhat irregular, about thirty or forty feet wide and twenty feet deep. Treetrunks are scattered throughout.))
[22:27] < eldersphinx> "Something for us? Ai, and how many fine treetrunks are ya promisin then?"
[22:27] * Kyann points at himself and makes a little circle gesture with one hand, indicating that he's going to see if the tracks pick up somewhere outside the clearing.

[22:28] * Shirinji slides his rifle underneath his coat, and joins everyone else inside the clearing.
[22:28] * Kyann starts moving quietly around the clearing, just inside the forest, looking for any indications of tracks.
[22:28] * Xyzo scratches his chin. "Depends on how good of information you can give me."
[22:29] * Xyzo does the job of being a flashy weirdo. He distracts the goblins.
